Came across your article and loved your analysis of this very sensitive subject for interpreters like myself. I agree with you that “When possible, in person interpreting is by far the best option. When interpreters are physically in the room they can do a much better job of reading body language and facial expressions.” My experience during COVID has been one that patients have been alone and the only person closest to them (from their culture, can speak their language) has been me. I hope on-site interpreting doesn’t disappear because it will be a great disservice to my community in Los Angeles,
